The 1946 flood caused the log piles that were stored in the railway sidings and Turnlee paper mill to be washed all over the Town.
A rumor was put out by Oliver and Partingtons paper mill owners that these logs would not burn, however this was untrue and many a house kept warm and dry by burning them after they had chopped them up.
